Talon® Ant Kill Gel https://agrofog.com/home-use/talon-ant-kill-gel/ Thu, 08 Dec 2022 16:06:25 +0000 https://agrofog.com/?post_type=product&p=9988 Talon® Ant Kill Gel is a professional strength ant baiting product powered by the active ingredient Thiamethoxam. The revolutionary formulation fatally attracts a wide range of nuisance pest ants and species.

How Talon® Ant Kill Gel Works

As a non-repellent insecticide the gel is highly attractive to ants so the workers ingest the product as a food source for the brood and queen. Furthermore, Talon® Ant Kill Gel uses a very low level of active ingredient which means ants are not controlled immediately but survive long enough to transfer the active ingredient back to the nest thereby eliminating the colony. Data show that full colonies can be controlled within days with the unique transfer capabilities of Talon® Ant Kill Gel.

Using Talon® Ant Kill Gel

Ants often nest under paving, foundations or in wall cavities making access and eradication difficult. By placing Talon® Ant Kill Gel in areas of high ant traffic you can ensure the worker ants feed on the bait and return it to the nest, controlling the queen and the colony.

Talon® Ant Kill Gel is a ready-to-use bait and should not be diluted or mixed with any other product or solvent. For best results, remove other sources of food and place the bait where it won’t be disturbed or contaminated by cleaning or work activities.

Talon® Ant Kill Gel is easy-to-use, simply place a minimum of 1-3 spots per m2 (approximately 5mm in size) around ant trails, nests or wherever ants are found.

Syngenta Talon Ant Kill Gel Mortality Rate

Product Profile

  • Total colony control can be achieved within days
  • Ant activity reduced within 48 hours
  • Clear, non-staining, odourless gel
  • Palatable for at least 14 days
  • Effective on a broad spectrum of ant species
  • Easy-to-use

Indoor Usage of Product

Place Talon® Ant Kill Gel in the kitchen where ants are trailing, around window sills and where ants enter the property.

Bathroom are another key foraging place for ants. Ants may travel into a building along electricity cables, gas and water piping and if you are able to locate ants at these entry points apply Talon® Ant Kill Gel.

Outdoor Usage of Product

Apply where ants are an obvious problem, around pets and other animal feeding areas. Talon® Ant Kill Gel can be applied around paving and decking and in gardens where ant trails are identified. Inject spots into cracks and crevices away from direct sunlight.

Note: Ants will feed on the bait as long as it is moist so if the bait dries out then reapply bait. Additional bait placements may be required if initial placements are consumed and ant activity remains high. Talon® Ant Kill Gel with remain attractive for at least 14 days so you should re-apply within 14 days to get the best results.

You can use a residual insecticide (e.g. Demand®) to protect the perimeter of your home for an integrated approach. This will reduce the risk of re-infection from neighbouring ant colonies and control a broad range of other pests such as cockroaches and spiders.

Optigard® Ant Gel bait is transparent at application and remains clear throughout the treatment cycle. It has little to no odour and won’t stain treated surfaces. Its thicker consistency helps it to hold its shape after application and resist degradation due to high temperatures.

Its active ingredient, thiamethoxam, is a second-generation neonicotinoid insecticide belonging to the thianicotinyl subclass. Thiamethoxam has demonstrated excellent activity against a broad range of economically important pests. Product containing thiamethoxam are used to control insect pests of crops, turf and ornamentals, as well as a broad spectrum of urban pests, including ants, termites, cockroaches, beetles and other nusiance insects.

Because of the unique properties of its active ingredient, thiamethoxam, Optigard® Ant Gel bait is readily transferred throughout the colony. Once ingested by forgaing workers, Optigard® Ant Gel bait doesn’t kill immediately; instead it is designed to take advantage of trophallaxis, or regurgitation. Ants that feed on the gel return to the nest and transfer the bait to their nest-mates, eliminating the entire colonly, including queens. Tests how that a reduction in workers will be apparent in two to three days, with complete colony elimination occurring within a week or more.

Optigard® Ant Gel bait has a non-repellent formula that has demonstrated excellent palatibility among a wide variety of ants. Studies show Optigard® Ant Gel bait retains its palatability for more than two full weeks after baiting, up to twice as long as other products.

Mode of Action:

Thiamethoxam targets the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the insect’s nervous system, resulting in the death of the ant. This mode of action is significantly different to that of other classes of insecticide commonly used for ant control. [e.g. boric acid formulations, pyrethroids, phenylpyrazoles (fiproni), pyrroles (chlofeanpyr),etc]

Application of Optigard® Ant Gel bait

  • Use spot placements in the cracks and crevices where ants nest or forage and/or in areas of entry into structures
  • Apply up to 1 gram of bait per spot
  • This product can be applied using the syringe applicator or bait injector tools
Product Profile for Optigard® Ant Gel bait
  • Broad spectrum control
  • Non-repellent, non-staining and non-volatile
  • Reduction of workers occurs within 2 to 3 days for most species
  • Test data shows that complete colony control occurs within days to weeks of baiting
  • Remains attractive even after aging for at least 2 weeks
  • Retains gel integrity at high temperatures
  • Safe to use in aircraft

An effective cockroach control programme can be achieved with integrated pest management approaches. Optigard® Cockroach Bait from Syngenta offers pest control managers an additional tool to control cockroaches effectively.

Optigard® Cockroach Bait has little to no odour and won’t stain treated surfaces. The consistency of the formulation matrix is designed to hold its shape after application and resist degradation due to high temperatures. Its active ingredient, emamectin benzoate, is the advanced generation derivative of avermectin, a unique active ingredient not found in other cockroach baits. Emamectin has a dual mode of action that help reduce the potential for resistance.

Optigard® Cockroach Bait is a non-repellent chemistry that is highly active against a wide range of pest cockroach species, including bait aversestrains. Studies show Optigard® Cockroach Bait retains its palatability for more than two full weeks after baiting.

Mode of Action:
The active ingredient in Optigard® Cockroach Bait, emamectin benzoate, stimulates the release of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the insect, which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, leading to paralysis and death.

Cockroaches are attracted to the highly palatable bait matrix, which, on consumption delivers an insecticidal dose of emamectin benzoate. Cockroaches that feed on the bait will return to their harborage where the active ingredient may be passed to other cockroaches, including nymphs that do not actively forage for food. Thus a lager number of cockroaches than those originally feeding on the bait are controlled.

Product Description and Packaging:

Optigard® Cockroach Bait is an easy-to-use, 0.1%, gel formulation packaged in a 30g syringe.

Demand” 2.5CS formulation contains 25 grams/litre lambda- cyhalothrin to control a broad range of insect pests, both indoors and outdoors. These unique water-based formulations avoid the use of organic solvents and are among the most powerful insecticides available for the control of public health pests; such as mosquitoes, flies and other flying insects, and cockroaches, ants and other crawling insects.

Demand® 2.5CS uses state-of-the-art microcapsule technology to give a product that combines the ease of use of an emulsifiable concentrate with the long-lasting residual strength of a wettable powder. Tiny droplets of lambda-cyhalothrin are contained within microcapsules in a creamy white suspension. In use, the products are diluted in water and applied to surfaces using conventional compression sprayer equipment.

After spraying, the water evaporates to leave the microcapsules on treated surfaces. The active ingredient remains isolated from the environment within the microcapsules and this protection provides extended duration effect, of especially on challenging surfaces such as cement. Insects moving over treated surfaces pick up microcapsules on their bodies. Once attached to the insects, the active ingredient rapidly moves out of the capsule and into the insect, providing a rapid knockdown effect followed by quick kill.
